Sitting has become #deadly – #sitting has taken over our lives

We sit everywhere. We sit at home, at school, while studying, on business trips, at work. Sitting is a significant part our daily lives.

Rest, on occasion, is good for you and is a well-deserved way to reward yourself for a job well done.Sitting as much as we do on a daily basis, however, has surpassed our bodies’ level of tolerance.  During our free time, all we have to do is seek the support of our chairs. During our daily lives, there is no longer any demand for us to physically exert ourselves or load our muscles.

The act of sitting has taken over our daily lives in a sly and innocent way. Sitting is associated with all sorts of irresistible things, but the consequences of sitting cannot be ignored.

The scary truth about sitting is not a fairy tale, it is a scientific fact:

Our changing society has made sitting deadly.

Some years ago, I was asked about my future plans. Without much of thinking I replied: “I want to make the world a better place where people don’t need to sit so much”. This spontaneous answer was the leading light to finish my PhD degree and forward to new business opportunities in health technology aiming at making life healthier - with less sitting. For my blog posts, I have used material from my book "Luomuliikunnan vallankumous" (engl. The revolution of everyday activity) (Fitra 2014).
